London’s Red Buses to run on Coffee Based Fuel.

29 June 2017

Biobean, (great name!) is a start-up business planning on introducing a doubly good deal for London.

With the recognition that diesel engine vehicles are not great for any city environment and the huge coffee culture that has developed in the Capital in recent years what better than a plan to run buses on coffee waste. Arthur Kay the entrepreneur behind Biobean is hoping to have a coffee powered bus running in the Capitol in a matter of weeks. A biochemical process extracts oil from the coffee grounds leaving the residue to be turned into fuel pellets for wood burners, and around 15% to 20% as fuel oil.

With an estimated 500,000 tonnes of coffee grounds produced in the UK every year this seems to be a clever effective environmentally friendly way to solve two challenges in a single stroke.
